Munakkaya Pappu(Drumstick Dal)

Ingredients:

Drumstick(Munakkaya) - 1
toor daal - 1 1/2 cup
Green chillies - 3
Chili powder - 1/4 tsp
Tomatoes - 2
Onions - 1
Oil - 4 tsps
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Mustard seeds- 1 tsp
Split bengal gram dal(senaga pappu)- 1 tsp
Red dry chillies - 3
Black gram - 1 tsp
Sesame powder - 1 tsp
Curry leaves- 10
Cilantro chopped- for garnish
Directions:



  1. Clean and cut munakkaya,onion and tomatoes into small pices.

  2. Boil toor dal,sliced onions,tomatoes,green chillies,munakkaya in a pressure cooker.Cook for 3-4 whistles.

  3. Smash the boiled toor dal,add salt and chili powder to taste.

  4. Heat oil in a pan.add Mustard seeds,senaga pappu,Black gram,Red dry chillies,Sesame powder,Curry leaves and Turmeric powder into oil and fry them.

  5. Add this to the toor dal and boil it for few minutes on low flame.Garnish with cilantro.

Tomato Munakkaya(Tomato Drumstick Curry)

Ingredients:

Drumsticks - 2(cut into 2" pieces)
Onion - 1
Tomato - 2(finely chopped)
Curry leaves - few
Garlic cloves - 4
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
Salt - to taste
Cilantro - 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 tsp

Directions:

  • In a pan heat 1/2 tsp oil and roast drumstick pieces for 3-4 mins.Keep aside

  • Again heat 1/2 tsp oil,add minced garlic,curry leaves.

  • Then add onions and fry them.

  • Add chilli powder,turmeric powder,salt and mix well.

  • Add chopped tomatoes.Cook covered for 5 mins.

  • Add roasted drumsticks.cook covered for 5 more mins.

  • Add a glass of water,adjust salt and cook covered till veggies are soft and required consistency is obtained.

  • Garnish with cilantro and turn stove off.
